Hauraki is yet to taste anything but success over his short two race career so far; returning to the paddock following a short spring preparation highlighted by a comfortable one length victory over classy competition in the 2015 Membership On Sale 3.y.o (1400m) at Randwick on November 8th.

Godolphin Racing Manager Jason Walsh revealed to Racing Victoria that the team has been thrilled with the form and class displayed by the three-year-old in his return to work and are hoping he will progress into a serious 2015 Australian Derby prospect following his first target; the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) on March 7th.

“He’s well-bred, he’s very good looking and while I do think he’ll come into his own once he gets out in trip, to win the two 1400m races the way he has obviously suggests he’s got a really nice future,” Walsh said of his first-up appearance this weekend.

“This is a really competitive race with some nice and progressive horses in it so we’ll get a good guide to his level on Saturday.

“He’s got a long preparation ahead of him and if he can tick all the boxes along the way we’re hoping that he might even make an Australian Derby colt.

“We think he’s got the makings of the sort of horse that can make his presence felt in those sort of races.

“Obviously he’ll take good improvement from the first-up run but we expect him to be more than competitive and hopefully he’s got a really bright future.”

Performing well in three Sydney barrier trials prior to his racing debut, Hauraki charged home to win the Hume Doors & Timber Handicap (1400m) on debut on October 25th in his only other start prior to his November 8th triumph.
